Oklahoma’s own John Moreland makes a stop at the Meteor Guitar Gallery in Bentonville at 128 W Central Ave on Thursday June 13th June at 7:00pm to 11:00pm.
Moreland has toured with the likes of John Prine and Jason Isbell and was last in the area in the fall as part of the Roots Festival and will now be bringing his music to Bentonville for an intimate show.
The replay of John Moreland’s network television debut is… glorious and affirming and a sucker punch. He is announced by Stephen Colbert, lights dissolve, and the camera slowly focuses on the person midway across the unadorned stage, revealing him beneath muted blue lights.
He is a big man. Seated, alone, cradling his acoustic guitar. He looks like nobody who is famous. Then he begins to sing, to caress the song “Break My Heart Sweetly,” and all that remains is to whisper, “Oh, my god.”
When you hear John Moreland‘s sweet voice, it’s hard to believe he spent years singing in punk, metal-core and hardcore bands. You can still hear that passion in his music, only now it’s punctuated by his acoustic guitar.
