Local Radio Personality Runs For Office
Long time NW Arkansas Radio Personality and Advocate for Arkansas’ Local Music scene, Matt Miller has announced he will run for 2016 Arkansas Constable in Washington County District 1 in hopes to replace sitting Constable John Duggar. District 1 includes much of Springdale, Tontotown, Johnson and a bit of Fayetteville, Sonora, Nob Hill and War Eagle area and services approx 18,000 residents. Matt lives in the Johnson area, placing him in the center of the district. Matt Miller’s political views puts him dead center between Democrat and Republican, however he has found more support with in the Democratic Party.
For the past several years, Matt Miller has worked in this community as an Afternoon Radio Personality starting off as Program Director and Brand Manager at KKEG 98.3, then in 2013 had moved over to KFMD Star 101.5. Matt has donated countless hours helping and building various charity organizations and businesses thru out Washington County. Matt is the V.P. of Giving Laughs Inc. A 501(c)3 Charity organization that raises money for charities throughout NW Arkansas. Matt owns many large, local news type websites and social media pages and continues to promote Civic Events, Music Events, Businesses and people thru out NW Arkansas. Matt currently sits on the board for the Johnson Festival Day coming this Summer.
Matt has approx 25 combined years in Public Safety, both in NW Arkansas and the Bay Area of California ranging from Fire, Rescue, EMS to Gang Reduction, School Campus Security, High Risk Personal Security, Professional Alarm Response/Patrol and Executive Personal Protection and has worked closely with city, county, state and federal agencies. Matt’s focus as Constable will be Community Involvement, Community Growth, Business Development and School Safety within his District 1 and working FOR the people in the District.
A Constable in Arkansas is, by the State Constitution, an Officer of the township in the county in which he/she has been elected. Other executive officers are the State Treasurer, the Secretary of State, the County Sheriff, the County Coroner, and all State Militia officers.
The Constable has the broad and primary responsibility of seeing that the laws of the County, State, and Country are faithfully executed.
Even though a Constable is by law required to perform many and sundry duties and is liable, under the same law, for the failure to perform these duties, they receive little or no pay, no monies for expenses, and are required to provide their own uniforms, equipment, and transportation. This is neither morally nor legally acceptable but it is the way of things at this particular time.
In a District where there is adequate Police presence, Matt Miller believe a focus should be in other areas. such as Public Events, School Safety, Public Safety Awareness/Education and Community Growth and believes he can fill a void where local law enforcement may not be able to focus entirely. If elected, Matt Miller will make himself available to his community residents as an added member of the area’s public safety responders within the guidelines of the Arkansas Constable’s duties and represent his office professionally, respectfully and in the interest of his office’s citizens.
Matt Miller has started a GoFundMe to help raise money to fund campaign materials, fees and equipment to help win the election in 2016.
