Mark another Rocklahoma down in the books. Rocklahoma 2019 has officially wrapped up and tired fans began trickling out of the campgrounds to head home. Although this year’s Rocklahoma was plagued with nasty weather that included warm sun and high winds during the day then heavy rain, storms and tornado warnings at night, the overall experience was awesome!
Many changes at this year’s Rocklahoma. Some are great and some were not so great but in the end the event still provided parties, live music and delicious food. With those new changes came growing pains but that is for another post.
One of the new features was the Roadhouse. A small stage in a large tent with a beer bar. Lots of benches to ease the old leg muscles and the perfect amount of live music, appropriate for the weekend’s pre party featuring Poster Child, Rocket Science, Strutter then Slaughter. Artists such as Lita Ford and Ace Frehly continued thru the weekend. This small venue added a more intimate environment making it easy to get close to your favorite bands.
This year’s Rocklahoma featured some outstanding headliners such as Korn, Disturbed, Bush, Shinedown, Seether and more, giving festival goers a wide range of entertainment for all ages.
The Rocklahoma grounds have grown. Alot. Moving the stages further apart, making enough room to add more vendors and amenities for fans. Food trucks were plentiful and had great food at reasonable prices, considering. I favored the Koren BBQ from Lucky Lucky Dumpling Co.
We were fortunate enough to attend Rocklahoma 2019 as guests in the Media Tent. Although some technical issues surrounded us, we were still able to visit with many of the artists and other Media outlets making the experience a great networking opportunity. Many artists were brought in with appointments and were unable to spend more than a few seconds with us, allowing us to shake a hand and snap a quick photo.
Although many bands were on tight schedules, we were still able to sit down with several. Some for 15 minutes and some for over an hour. This gave a us a chance to get caught up with what the band is doing next, learn about album releases and even talk about our kids. We’ll post that info in a different post very soon.
As far as the campgrounds… wild! Half the reason for attending Rocklahoma is to just wonder thru the camping areas. The events within are always fun to watch or take part. Campers are exited to see you stop by and are very welcoming. As you tour the camps you may see the more edgy Beer Pong, Stripper Poles and Naked Mud Wrestling events as well as a more tame experience such as Live Music, Lounging or a good Card Game.
In the end, Rocklahoma is the perfect chance for Rock fans to get out of town and cut loose. Whether you party hard or just go to relax and enjoy the music, Rocklahoma offers everything you may want at a music festival. It’s an experience that everyone should have at least once. Always be prepared for rain. Getting stuck in the middle of it can certainly take the Rock out of your Roll.
