As Rocklahoma Festival goers arrive early in Pryor, Ok for the upcoming 3 day music festival, Oklahoma officials are warning of a Severe Weather Outbreak expected today, Monday May 20th across the state.
It’s been exactly 6 years ago (5/20/2013) since Moore, Ok was hit with a large tornado that killed several people.
Some Oklahoma schools are closed across Oklahoma ahead of the bad weather. Many of the largest school systems in the center of the state (as well as the University of Oklahoma campus) will be closed all day Monday, which appears to be the first time such a mass closure has occurred in central Oklahoma. High heat will also be another big weather story as the Memorial Day weekend rolls in, look for a “death ridge” of heat.
CELL AND DATA SERVICE IS LIMITED AT ROCKLAHOMA.
Call Loop – makes it easy for schools, organizations, and local government agencies to send emergency alerts via mass text messages and audio voice broadcasts. Lets users sign up to receive local weather alerts and updates sent directly to their mobile phone. Weather Alerts – Just text in WEATHER to 38470. Text is best way to communicate in low service areas.
Rocklahoma utilizes a FLAG system to alert guests and staff of the current weather conditions and will have flags placed at the main gate, the VIP gate, and at the main stage. Additional flags will be located in the campground as noted below:
- GA Camping – On the main light poles and entry to the concert area
- VIP Camping – On the poles by the shower house, at the vehicle entrance and across the creeks
In the event of severe weather, there will be a public address announcement such as: “Ladies and Gentlemen, may I have your attention please. There is a severe weather event approaching. It is necessary that all persons safely exit the venue at this time and take immediate cover. Please remain calm and exit the venue in an orderly manner. Ample exits are available for everyone to exit quickly and safely so please do not run, push or shove. Once outside the gates please return to your vehicles until the storm passes.” During an emergency, festival teams will be deployed to assist with crowd flow and evacuation if necessary.
Please follow any instructions given to you via the main stage public address, and check for related updates @Rocklahoma “TWITTER” for further information. It is important to remember that we are in an open field and in the event of severe weather; your vehicle is your safest place to go.
