In less than 3 weeks, Shawn James will be headed to Sun Studio in Memphis, TN to record his next solo, full length record titled “On the Shoulders of Giants”.
Shawn is the front man for Shawn James & The Shapeshifters, a 5 piece rock band from Fayetteville, Arkansas. At first glimpse, you might confuse them with a bluegrass or metal band. Influenced by every type of music, and growing up in several heavy and folky bands, the sound is not what you would expect. With a different vibe for every ep put out so far, they truly utilize the phrase “shapeshifters”.
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous to be recording where legends like B.B. King, Elvis, Johnny Cash & Howlin’ Wolf recorded but it’s also an inspiration that’s pushing me to become better.
This record will be a one-man-band blues/folk album recorded live in the vein of Son House, Robert Johnson, Blind Willie Johnson & other old blues giants. David Arteaga will be documenting the whole experience with pictures and videos so stay tuned!
